MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Vermont Secretary of State’s office is highlighting a new online system that allows people to register to vote, check their voting status and request an absentee ballot.
Secretary of State Jim Condos highlighted the system Thursday, which has been available online for about a week. He says that even without publicity, 285 people have registered to vote since the system went online.
He says it will help ensure a more accurate and reliable election system.
The new system includes a statewide voter checklist and other tools that town and city clerks across Vermont can use to help manage elections, including complicated after-election reports.
Condos says the entire system cost about $2.7 million with $2 million of that coming from the federal Help America Vote Act.
