SANFORD — Sam Anderson scored on a 21-yard run with 48 seconds remaining Friday night, lifting Sanford to a 28-21 victory against Massabesic in a Class A South football game at Cobb Stadium.

Frankie Veino rushed for two points as the Spartans (4-4) took the lead against the Mustangs (1-7).

Isaac DesVergnes had given Massabesic a 21-20 lead earlier in the fourth quarter with his third touchdown run of the game.

Anderson also scored on a 22-yard run, and Veino and Keith Kerrigan added rushing touchdowns for Sanford, which is likely to play at Scarborough in the first round of the playoffs.

KENNEBUNK 38, NOBLE 19: Patrick Saunders had 16 carries for 100 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns as the Rams (6-2) handled the Knights (3-5) at Kennebunk.

Quarterback Justin Wiggins led Kennebunk with 15 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown, and added 105 passing yards and a 7-yard scoring toss to Dante DeLorenzo.

Kasey Rogers of Noble had a 50-yard touchdown run and caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Otto Keisker.

The Rams are expected to play at Biddeford to open the playoffs.

CONY 40, GARDINER 0: Reid Shostak ran for a career-high 252 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries at Augusta as Cony (4-4) slammed Gardiner (1-7) for a third straight season, in the 138th meeting between the rivals.

The Rams, who won 41-0 last fall and 76-14 the year before, have won four straight overall against the Tigers and six of the last seven.

DIRIGO 29, MARANACOOK 20: Riley Robinson rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns, and passed for 54 and a score to Gavin Arsenault as Dirigo (6-2) beat the Black Bears (4-4) at Readfield.

Dirigo took over second place in Class D South, while Maranacook will be on the road for the first round of the playoffs, likely against Winthrop/Monmouth.

Robinson rushed 24 times behind a big, efficient offensive line. He totaled 94 yards in the first half although the Black Bears held a 12-7 lead.

LAWRENCE 17, MESSALONSKEE 13: Braden Ballard’s 71-yard touchdown pass to Seth Powers with 10:39 left lifted Lawrence (4-4) over the Eagles (3-5) at Oakland and into the Class B North playoffs.

On his first play from scrimmage after Jack Bernatchez’s 10-yard TD run put Messalonskee up 13-10, Ballard found the speedy Powers over the middle for the touchdown.

BOOTHBAY REGION 8, WINTHROP/MONMOUTH 6: Dima Gosselin scored on a 2-yard run in the third quarter and Xavier Downing ran in the 2-point conversion as the Seahawks (2-5) stunned the Ramblers (4-3) at Winthrop.

Winthrop/Monmouth – which played without a pair of two-way starters with injuries – will likely go into the Class D South playoffs as the No. 4 seed and host Maranacook.
