Office hours

The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday.

Meetings

The next Planning Board ordinance review workshop is Wednesday, Oct. 28,at 8 a.m., at Mallett Hall. The subject is single lot and back lot ordinances.

The Pownal Board of Selectmen will meet Monday, Nov. 2, 16 and 30, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall.

Trunk or Treat

Oct. 30

A family event, Trunk or Treat, is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30, from 6-7:30 p.m., at Pownal Elementary School. Participants should decorate the trunk of their car, fill a bowl with some candy, grab the family and costumes and come celebrate Halloween at the school. The school parking lot will close at 6:30 p.m. so the kids can begin to trick or treat from car to car.

Any cars not in the lot by 6:30 will not be eligible for the prizes for the two favorite trunks, but people are welcome to come with candy to hand out to all the costumed kids.

The North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road, will be holding a public baked bean and spaghetti supper on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 4:30-6 p.m. On the menu will be three kinds of beans, spaghetti with meat sauce, potato salad, cole slaw, biscuits, brown bread, pickled beets and assorted homemade pies. Tickets are $8, $3 for children 4-12 and free for children 3 and younger. For more information, call Kim at 865-3517.

on Halloween

The next music night at Fuego Diablo, 52 Loring Lane, Pownal, is on Halloween night, Saturday, Oct. 31, starting at 5:30 p.m. All ages and genres are welcome, especially songs and stories of monsters and ghosts and scary tales. Bradbury Mountain Arts show Nov. 21, 22

The 17th annual Bradbury Mountain Arts Holiday Show & Sale of Fine Art is Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., at Mallett Hall, Route 9 in Pownal center. Artists and artisans will feature painting, sculpture, wood-turning, sailcloth bags, photography, jewelry, pottery, print-making, paper arts and more. Baked goods will be sold by local Girl Scouts. The event is free and handicap accessible. For more information call 688-6555.

Food pantry on Wednesdays

The North Pownal United Methodist Church Food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone. Donations are appreciated. The church office number is 688-4938.

Men’s breakfast

First Parish Church of Pownal hosts a Men’s Breakfast the first Saturday of each month, Nov. 7, at 7:30 a.m. at the church, open to any men who want to come, regardless of affiliation. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

Prayer, Praise and Worship, with the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre, is held every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road. For more information, call St. Pierre at 837-0682 or Lay Leader Deb Larrabee at 240-1637.

North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m. Sunday School for children and adults is at 10:30 a.m.

The First Parish Congregational Church, Route 9, worship service is Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages is 11 a.m.-noon. Bible Study meets at the church on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Choir has started and anyone wishing to join is welcome to come to rehearsals on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. For more information, call the Rev.
