A Westbrook woman with a lengthy criminal record was arrested early Wednesday morning after leading police on a chase through Windham and Gorham.

A Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a silver Nissan Versa driven by Rebecca M. Warren, 32, for erratic operation around 3:30 a.m. on River Road in Windham, but she failed to stop and sped off, according to police. The chase continued onto Route 202, through the Gorham rotary and onto Route 237 toward Standish before police stopped the chase because of fog, according to police.

A short time later, police found the car in a ditch with Warren and a male passenger attempting to flee, according to police. Deputies believe Warren overshot the driveway she intended to pull into and then backed into the ditch, causing minor damage to the car.

Warren was charged with eluding a police officer, operating after license revocation for being a habitual offender, operating under the influence, refusal to submit to arrest and violating conditions of release. Police say Warren has a lengthy criminal history and driving record.

The male passenger was not charged and was not identified by police.
