A North Waterboro man’s new security system caught a 19-year-old neighbor in the act of breaking into his house and stealing, authorities say.

The man had discovered money missing from his house twice over the past summer but no sign of someone forcing their way in, said York County Sheriff Bill King. That led the homeowner to install a video security system.

When cash and a GPS unit disappeared Friday, he checked the recording and realized his neighbor was using a credit card to slip the lock on a side door, King said.

York County Sgt. David Chauvette investigated and on Tuesday, Troy Blackburn, 19, of North Waterboro was issued a summons to appear in court Dec. 2 to face charges of burglary, a felony. Blackburn said he and the neighbor had a dispute earlier in the summer.
