PORTLAND — Belinda  Ray will be the new City Councilor representing District 1, after defeating four other candidates in the race Tuesday.

Ray will replace Councilor Kevin Donoghue, who decided not to seek a fourth, three-year term.

She received 1,206 votes, followed by Brandon Mazer with 697, Patrick Flynn with 570 votes, Sean Kerwin with 354 votes and Paula Guillemette-Agopian with 230 votes.

District 1 encompasses the eastern end of the city peninsula to High Street, a small portion of the Back Cove area and the Casco Bay Islands.
