Police continue to search for a man they believe stole a large number of guns during a series of home burglaries in York and Cumberland counties.

Maine State Police have issued an arrest warrant for Philip Harris, 31, of Buxton, whom they believe committed burglaries in which at least eight long guns and a number of handguns were stolen. Many of the guns were later sold to people in Buxton and Dayton, according to state police.

Troopers investigating a burglary on Haley Road in Hollis in June identified Harris as a suspect, then learned that Cumberland County Sheriff’s detectives also had identified Harris as a suspect in burglaries in that county.

The agencies recovered a number of the guns.

On Monday, they announced they had issued a warrant charging Harris with theft. Police ask that anyone with information call 657-3030.
