This past week has been exhausting on the political front. The aftereffects are still being evaluated and will continue to be for years to come.
What I found very disheartening in Portland elections was the paucity of women candidates who were willing to put their personal perspectives and expertise into the equation.
As a woman, I feel that my particular perspective is not being represented. With only two woman city councilors, the female point of view is not fully or equally represented.
The male privilege that is prominent in politics makes running for office an uphill battle for females. We need to step up as a community and make this defeating and socially toxic atmosphere diminish.
In light of this, I would encourage women to look inside for their voice and consider running for office at all levels of government.
