Brunswick police have released a composite sketch of “a person of interest” in the sexual assault that a student reported last week in one of Bowdoin College’s off-campus housing complexes.

Cmdr. Mark Waltz said the man was seen loitering near the Mayflower Apartments on Belmont Street on the night of Nov. 10.

A 19-year-old student reported being raped that night in her apartment in the Mayflower Apartments, which Bowdoin owns and operates.

The student did not know her attacker, the college’s director of security said in an email to Bowdoin students. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“He had not been seen previously in the neighborhood,” Waltz said Monday. “It should be noted that he may or may not be involved in the assault. At this point we are simply trying to identify him as he was seen loitering in the area.”

Police described the man as white, with matted, uncombed hair, about 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall, and slender. He was wearing layered clothing, with the outer layer possibly red, and dark blue or black pants. He was not wearing a hat or glasses.

Anyone who can help identify the man is asked to call police at 725-5521 or send an email to Detective Greg Mears at gmears@brunswickpd.org.
