These Press Herald photographs show Park Avenue next to Deering Oaks park, looking toward downtown Portland with the City Hall tower visible on the horizon. The historic photo appeared on the cover of the May 16, 1960, Portland Evening Express; the modern-day photograph was taken on Nov. 12.
The Portland Room of the Portland Public Library is in the process of organizing and conserving the archival collection of original Portland Press Herald, Maine Sunday Telegram and Evening Express photographic negatives — a major collection that spans from 1937 to 2005.
