A national organization for female entrepreneurs is forming a Portland chapter.

The Women Presidents’ Organization will hold its first meeting Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. at the offices of Verrill Dana on the ninth floor of One Portland Square.

“Women-owned and women-led businesses represent a growing sector of both our local and the global economy,” said Juliet T. Browne, a partner at Verrill Dana who will chair the chapter. “This new chapter will help a group of women entrepreneurs build their businesses in an ever-changing economic context.”

Browne said Portland was recently recognized by Fast Company magazine as one of the top 10 metro areas for female entrepreneurship.

The organization helps connect women who own multimillion-dollar companies in monthly meetings where they share business expertise and experiences in a confidential setting.

Membership requires an ownership interest in a company with annual revenues of at least $2 million, or $1 million for a service-based company.
