Firefighters were able to contain a fire at home at 79 Black Point Road in New Gloucester to the basement where it started but there was extensive smoke damage throughout the house.
The fire was reported at 6:35 a.m.
There were no reports of injuries.
The building is a home on Sabbathday Lake.
New Gloucester firefighters were joined by crews from Poland, Gray and North Yarmouth.
