SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Portland Pirates beat the Syracuse Crunch 4-1 Wednesday evening at the Onondaga County War Memorial Arena.

The Pirates, who have won four straight, scored twice in the first period following turnovers. Connor Brickley beat Syracuse goalie Kristers Gudlevskis at 1:37 and Rob Schremp put a hard shot just under the crossbar at 12:09 for his team-leading seventh goal.

Mike Matheson put in a feed from Chase Balisy during a two-on-one break with 6:24 left in the second period to make it 3-0.

Philippe Paradis spoiled the shutout on a shot that goalie Mike McKenna (21 saves) managed to get a skate on with 12:01 left in the third.

Brett Olson added an empty-netter on a power play in the final minute.
