A 21-year-old Alfred man was seriously injured early Saturday when he was struck by a motorist who then fled the scene.

Maine State Police said they are investigating the crash that injured John Caramihalis, who was hit about 2:45 a.m. on the dirt portion of Kennebunk Road in Alfred.

Police said a large number of young adults had gathered about a mile away along the road at an outside party, and that an anonymous caller reported the crash.

Caramihalis was listed in critical condition Saturday night at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Police were still looking for the motorist Saturday night and urged anyone with information about the incident to call their dispatch center at 657-3030.
