The victim of a hit-and-run accident early Saturday in Alfred remained in critical condition on Monday, according to a spokeswoman for Maine Medical Center in Portland.

John Caramihalis, 21, of Alfred was injured around 2:45 a.m. Saturday in the York County town when a car struck him and the motorist fled.

Maine State Police said their investigation into the accident remains active.

Caramihalis was hit on the dirt portion of Kennebunk Road. Police said a large group of young adults were participating in an outdoor party on the same road, about a mile from where Caramihalis was hit. An anonymous caller notified police.
