Eileen Skinner, president and CEO of Mercy Health System of Maine, will be honored at the 19th Annual Women of Distinction Gala Dec. 3 at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks in South Portland. The Gala is an annual event sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Maine to celebrate women whose high level of achievement distinguish them as outstanding members of their communities and exemplary role models for today’s girls. Skinner moved to Maine in 2002, when she became president and CEO at Mercy Hospital. She is on the Junior Achievement Laureate Nominating Committee, and has most recently been appointed to the Board of the Maine Historical Society. Skinner became involved in local crime prevention after the fatal shooting of a security guard at Mercy by chairing a Crime Prevention Task Force for the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce. Skinner is a 2012 recipient of the American Heart Association’s Crystal Heart Award, and was awarded the 2012 Grassroots Champion award by the American Hospital Association.

Apothecary By Design and Portland Adult Education were both lauded at the The Finance Authority of Maine’s annual meeting and awards event, Showcase Maine, Nov. 19 at Portland’s Holiday Inn By The Bay. Showcase Maine is FAME’s annual celebration of successful partnerships with Maine’s business, lending and higher education communities.

Apothecary By Design received the Business at Work for Maine Award, for which FAME partnered with Bangor Savings Bank to make the business a success. The company offers specialized pharmacy services, and FAME recognized the company’s commitment to patient care, innovation and growth in Maine and the nation’s health care industry.

The Education at Work for Maine Award was given to Portland Adult Education, which has been committed to increasing educational opportunities and financial literacy since 1850. The organization helps to foster self- sufficiency through education for area immigrants and refugees, as well as the greater southern Maine community.

The Portland Water District and the Portland Industrial Pretreatment Program were selected by the EPA for a 2015 Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award.

Promerica Health of Falmouth has received accreditation from COLA, a national health care accreditation organization. Promerica Health is a national provider of health screenings, employee wellness programming and related solutions.

Sue Dostie of Harpswell, a CRRN at New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland, recently achieved the designation of Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse. She is the first nurse at the hospital to earn the prestigious credential. New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland is a joint venture between Maine Medical Center and HealthSouth.

Cape Elizabeth native Tom Tinsman has been recognized for outstanding achievement and named Broker of the Month in October for superior sales at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, in the Cape Elizabeth real estate office.

Hires, Promotions, Appointments

Maine Medical Center Board of Trustees has named Bill Burke, chairman of the Portland Sea Dogs as the new chairman of the board. Two members have also been added to the board: Mike Simonds, president and CEO of Unum US, and Brett Loffredo, M.D., a primary care physician and the associate medical director for Maine Medical Partners – Westbrook Primary Care.

The Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership in Portland has added a new facilitator-trainer, Derek Ahl, to its staff. The Center is a nonprofit organization working in Maine’s health and healthcare sectors towards coordinated care and efficiencies that moderate the growth of costs.

Abby Peck has been hired as director of Annual Giving and Special Events at Spurwink, which provides statewide developmental services.

Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick has appointed Shannon Coray as the director of Volunteer Services. In her new role, Coray will recruit, train and manage more than 500 volunteers working throughout the hospital.

R. M. Davis welcomes George Carr as the new vice president of R. M. Davis, northern New England’s largest wealth management firm, headquartered in Portland.

New Beginnings

Jim Hauptman, Jenna Klein Jonsson and Kevin Kayne have formalized a new Portland-based partnership, and announced the formation of Blaze Partners , with roots in Blaze, LLC – a brand communications consultancy founded by Hauptman in 2011.

Giving Back

The Maine Marathon presented the Robbie Foundation of Scarborough, with a $50,000 donation at a small ceremony Nov. 11 at Sebago Brewing in Scarborough. Every other year, event organizers designate a local charity as the main beneficiary of race proceeds for a two-year cycle, with additional donations by entrants. An additional $4,355 was awarded from runner donations. The Robbie Foundation works to bridge the gap for children with developmental disabilities by funding adaptive equipment, technology and therapy treatment not covered by insurances.

The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, has awarded a $2,500 grant to Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program’s food pantry.
