DAMARISCOTTA — A Waldoboro man has been arrested on charges that he sexually abused a child in Damariscotta.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that 48-year-old Adam McDonough was arrested Friday on charges of sexual abuse of a minor and unlawful sexual contact.

Lt. Michael Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the arrest comes after an investigation conducted by the county sheriff’s office and the Damariscotta Police Department.

Murphy said authorities were notified this year that a 14-year-old boy had been sexually assaulted by a man he met and befriended. The boy said he only knew the man by his first name – Adam.

Police said the investigation included conducting surveillance of the area where the assault allegedly occurred.

After being questioned, McDonough was arrested and taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. He has been released on $2,000 cash bail on the condition that he have no contact with the victim or any children under the age of 18.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Detective Scott Hayden at 882-7332.
