AURORA — Police say a driver who decided to stop his SUV on Route 9 in Aurora and get out was struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

Police say it’s not known why 34-year-old Anthony Barnes of Plymouth decided to turn off his vehicle’s ignition and lights in the driving lane and get out on the driver’s side at about 6 p.m. Thursday.

A passing car clipped the left rear door of the SUV and then struck Barnes, who later died of his injuries at a hospital.

The driver and a passenger in the other car were uninjured. Two other passengers in Barnes’ car also weren’t hurt.

The accident remains under investigation.
