CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — With the Christmas shopping season underway, New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster is warning consumers to remain guarded against credit card fraud, even as more secure credit card technologies become widespread.

New credit cards contain a small computer chip that creates a unique security code for transactions. The technology is more secure than traditional magnetic strip credit cards because stolen transaction numbers cannot be used again and the stolen card can’t be duplicated.

The cards aren’t swiped like a traditional magnetic strip card, but are inserted into a terminal slot that processes the transaction. Many stores are transitioning to the technology.
