Kudos to the Maine Sunday Telegram and Shoshana Hoose for bringing attention to the problems created by brick sidewalks (“Portland’s historic brick sidewalks may be charming, but they are not safe,” Nov. 22).

I’ve wondered why the city hasn’t started replacing them with some of the permeable products, which would also decrease the problem of runoff during heavy rains.
