BOSTON — Samantha DeFreese scored 10 of her 25 points in the third quarter Friday afternoon as Northeastern took control on the way to a 56-44 win over Maine in a women’s basketball game.

Maine (6-4) took a 23-20 lead into halftime, led by 12 first-half points from Sigi Koizar. The Black Bears opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer by Mikaela Gustafsson, but Northeastern (5-2) scored 23 of the next 28 points.

Koizar finished with 16 points and six assists. Bella Swan added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Maine.

CLARKSON 61, BATES 49: Ashley Loggins scored 13 points and the Golden Knights (5-1) closed with a 16-3 run against the Bobcats (0-5) in the Williams College Classic at Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Nina Davenport scored 15 points and Allie Coppola finished with 13 points for Bates, which fell behind 22-5 in the first quarter but rallied to take a 46-45 lead with 4:28 left.

COLBY 72, UMAINE-FORT KENT 53: Haley Driscoll scored 16 points as the Mules (5-1) defeated the Bengals (8-1) in the Colby Classic at Waterville.

Carylanne Wolfington and Mia Diplock each had 10 points, and Emily Davis finished with nine points and 15 rebounds.

Ericka Saucier led UMFK with 17 points.

(4) BAYLOR 86, NORTHWESTERN STATE 44: Kalani Brown scored 16 points as the Bears (8-0) rolled past the Demons (3-5) at Waco, Texas.

(2) MARYLAND 96, ST. FRANCIS 55: Robert Carter Jr. scored 20 points, and the Terrapins bounced back from their first loss of the season (7-1), routing the Red Flash (3-4) at College Park, Maryland.

COLBY 3, BOWDOIN 0: Emerson Verrier made a career-high 43 saves, and Devin Albert, Michael Rudolf and Nick O’Connor scored as the Mules (2-2-1, 1-2 NESCAC) downed the Polar Bears (1-4-1, 0-2-1) at Waterville.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 2, ST. ANSELM 2: Ian Rodden scored the tying goal 5:29 into the third period for UNE (4-4-2, 1-4-2 NEHC) against the Hawks (5-2-2, 3-1-2) at Manchester, New Hampshire.

Brady Fleurent also scored for the Nor’easters, and Connor Maloney made 29 saves.

NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Cole Klippenstein scored a power-play goal and Kyle Shapiro made 25 saves for USM (5-5, 2-4 NEHC) in a loss to the Pilgrims (5-2-1, 3-1-1) at Henniker, New Hampshire.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 5, SUNY-CANTON 1: Five players scored for the Nor’easters (4-4-1) against the Kangaroos (4-6-1) at Biddeford.

Marissa Biederman scored in the first period, Emily Corrales and Gabby Crugnale scored in the second, and Mary Wirth and Shannon Reynolds added third-period goals.

Sydney Helmbrecht made 28 saves for the win.

SOUTHERN MAINE 3, ENDICOTT 0: Britney Evangelista made 22 saves and USM (2-5-1) scored in each period against the Gulls (6-2-1) at Gorham.

Cassandra Sherman, McKenna Russell and Tatiana Doucette each had a goal for the Huskies.

HAMILTON 6, COLBY 4: Sasha Fritts had two goals and an assist for the Mules (2-3, 1-2 NESCAC) in a loss to the Continentals (3-2, 2-1), who scored three unanswered goals in the third period at Clinton, New York.
