Amanda Allen Nurse, a 2005 Waynflete School graduate who now lives in Boston, and Leah Frost, a native of Round Pond who now lives in Vermont, qualified for the 2016 Olympic marathon trials with strong performances Sunday at the California International Marathon in Sacramento, California.
Nurse, 28, finished seventh in the women’s division with a time of 2 hours, 40 minutes and 45 seconds. A former lacrosse player at Waynflete and Bowdoin College, she lowered her marathon PR by almost six minutes.
Frost, 32, slipped under the qualifying time of 2:43:00 by just 8 seconds. Her previous best time was 2:47:34 at this year’s Maine Marathon, which she won for the third year in a row.
Three current Maine residents – Michelle Lilienthal of Portland, Erica Jesseman of Scarborough and Sheri Piers of Falmouth – also have qualified for the Olympic marathon trials, which will be held Feb. 13 in Los Angeles.
