SACO — Ashley Howe scored 15 points and Cassidy Cochrane 14 as Thornton Academy topped Marshwood 50-40 in girls’ basketball Tuesday night.

Thornton (2-0) grabbed an early lead and held a 29-16 advantage at the break over the Hawks (1-1).

The Trojans made their free throws down the stretch to hold their lead.

Thornton finished with 16 points from the line with all seven players contributing points.

GORHAM 34, SCARBOROUGH 28: Mackenzie Holmes scored 13 points and collected 12 rebounds for the Rams (2-0) in a victory over visiting Scarborough (0-1).

For the Red Storm, Sophie Glidden reached double figures with 11 points.

LINCOLN ACADEMY 40, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 28: Brie Wager paced Lincoln Academy (2-0) with eight points, seven assists and four steals in a win over Spruce Mountain (0-2) at Newcastle.

Alyx York helped out with seven points and seven rebounds.

Spruce Mountain’s Alexis Bessey led all scorers with 17 points.

LAKE REGION 39, YARMOUTH 29: Kristen Huntress led all scorers with 16 points as the Lakers (1-1) defeated the Clippers (0-2) at Yarmouth.

Alison Clark finished with seven points and 11 rebounds for Yarmouth.

FRYEBURG 60, POLAND 33: Julia Quinn scored all eight of her points during the first quarter, and Bridget Bailey added five off the bench as the Raiders (1-0) opened the game with an 18-6 run over Poland (1-1) in Fryeburg,

Bailey finished with a game-high 13 points for Fryeburg.

LEAVITT 49, MORSE 47: Sophia Gilbert scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter as Leavitt (2-0) rallied to defeat Morse (1-1) at Turner.

Morse led 38-27 after three quarters, but Leavitt finished the game with a 22-9 run.

The Shipbuilders turned the ball over 33 times, many of those in the fourth quarter.

Chantel Eells added nine to Leavitt’s fourth-quarter effort and led all scorers with 20 points.

Emma Harrington led Morse with 15 points and Signe Ostergaard added 10.

GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 45, ISLESBORO 24: Clarissa Jones and Ashlee Dawson dominated the inside while leading the Lions (1-1) past Islesboro (0-1) in South Portland.

Portland Christian opened the game with a 16-6 run behind eight points form Dawson and six from Jones, and continued pulling away.

Dawson finished with 16 points and eight blocked shots, and Jones had 12 points and 15 rebounds. Emily Lau scored 12 points for the Eagles.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 46, ERSKINE ACADEMY 29: Sophie Cohen scored 14 points and Maggie Cox scored 13 to help Medomak Valley (1-1) rally for a win over Erskine Academy (1-1) at Waldoboro.

Medomak Valley trailed by three points at halftime, but hit 6 of 8 from the free-throw line down the stretch to seal the win.

SACOPEE VALLEY 45, TRAIP 32: Helen Ruhlin scored 17 points and Annette Humphrey 14 in leading the Hawks (1-1) past Traip (0-2) in Hiram.

Traip opened the game with a 7-0 run, but Sacopee Valley outscored the Rangers 27-11 over the remainder of the first half for 27-18 lead.

Marina Casey finished with 14 points for Traip.

SOUTH PORTLAND 40, DEERING 37: Madeline Hasson’s 28 points led the Red Riots (1-1) over Deering (1-1) in South Portland.

Tasia Titherington scored 16 for the Rams.

RICHMOND 51, HYDE 17: Sydney Tilton had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead the Bobcats to a win in Richmond.

Kelsea Anair finished with eight points and six assists for the Bobcats (2-0).

Diamond Brown scored nine points to lead Hyde (1-1).

LISBON 47, OAK HILL 31: The Greyhounds outscored the Raiders 28-7 in the second half on their way to a win in Wales.

Bree Sautter had a game-high 15 points for Lisbon (1-1), and Jamie Prue paced Oak Hill (1-1) with eight points.

MONMOUTH ACADEMY 71, WINTHROP 7: The Mustangs (2-0) jumped to an early lead and cruised to an easy victory over the Ramblers (0-2) at Winthrop.

Tia Day led the offense with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, Haley West had 10 points and grabbed a game-high 10 boards and Madalin Amero added 10 points.

Adlin Chaparin was the top scorer for Winthrop with two points.

CHEVERUS/KENNEBUNK/OLD ORCHARD BEACH 8, WINSLOW/ERSKINE ACADEMY 3: Sophia Giancotti paced the offense with a pair of goals and three assists as Cheverus/Kennebunk/OOB (3-2) downed Winslow/Erskine Academy (0-3) at the University of New England in Biddeford.

Jill Hannigan had a pair of goals and a pair of assists, and Caroline Ray dished out a game-high five assists.

Miranda Gagne had two goals and an assist for Winslow/Erskine Academy.
