Maine made Fodor’s Travel 2016 Go List, one of 25 destinations highlighted by tourism’s annual publication.

The Go List destinations span six continents and 20 countries and are chosen by the experts at Fodor’s Travel. The 2016 list highlights countries such as Ecuador and Lithuania, as well as the islands of Sicily and Faroe, and the cities of Philadelphia, San Sebastian and Fez, among other destinations. Maine and Utah were the only U.S. states included in the list.

“The word is getting out about what makes Maine special, from the beauty of our diverse landscape and coastline, with access to amazing outdoor adventure experiences, to the explosive growth of our ‘locavore’ food and beverage scene, our friendly people and the quality of Maine’s lodging and cultural offerings,” said Carolann Ouellette, director of the Maine Office of Tourism in a release.

The office estimates Maine’s tourism generates more than $5.6 billion in direct expenditures and provides 94,000 jobs, about 14 percent of the state’s employment.
