A 69-year-old Buxton man was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland Wednesday after he crashed his car into a tree at Biddeford Savings Bank on Main Street in south Waterboro. York County Sheriff Bill King said deputies were called to the bank around noon, after a late-model Nissan Altima operated by Richard Smith, traveling on Main Street toward Alfred, crossed the center line, into the opposite lane and left the road. King said the vehicle careened onto the bank property and struck a tree about 3 feet from the corner of the building. The cause of the crash and Smith’s condition were unknown at press time.
