Thomas Coyne, Falmouth basketball: Coyne, a senior, scored 29 points in a season opener as the Yachtsmen beat Kennebunk, 75-52. Coyne added 35 points and sank seven 3-pointers in a 69-66 win over Cape Elizabeth.
HONORABLE MENTION
Amir Moss, Portland basketball: Moss opened the season with back-to-back 20-point games as the Bulldogs beat South Portland and Bonny Eagle.
Luke Trickey, Cheverus hockey: Trickey had two goals and two assists while playing significant time on the penalty-killing unit in the Stags’ 5-4 overtime win over Falmouth.
Nicholas DePatsy, Medomak Valley basketball: DePatsy scored 35 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Panthers beat Erskine Academy 56-47 last Tuesday. In a season opener a week ago, DePatsy had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 51-40 win over Gardiner.
GIRLS
Sadie Nelson, Windham basketball: The senior forward totaled 31 points in two games to help the Eagles get off to a 2-0 start. She had 16 points and five steals in a 52-41 win over Sanford, and 15 points in a convincing win over Noble.
HONORABLE MENTION
Mckenzie Holmes, Gorham basketball: Holmes, a freshman, scored 31 points and grabbed 23 rebounds in her first two varsity games, helping the Rams go 2-0. She had 18 points and 11 rebounds in a 61-36 win over Westbrook, and 13 points and 12 rebounds in a 34-28 win over Scarborough.
Tasia Titherington, Deering basketball: She scored 30 points in a season-opening 65-47 win over Portland, then added 16 points in a 40-37 loss to South Portland.
Courtney Sullivan, Greely hockey: Sullivan scored a goal and added two assists as the Rangers beat Edward Little/Leavitt 5-2 to remain undefeated.
