UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Morgan Tuck scored 18 points to lead a balanced offense and help No. 1 UConn beat 11th-ranked Florida State 73-49 on Friday night in the Hall of Fame Showcase for their 45th straight victory.

Breanna Stewart added 16 points, seven assists, six blocks and five steals for the Huskies (8-0), who led by two early on before slowly pulling away from Florida State (7-2). Freshman Napheesa Collier, who was making her first start of the season, scored six points in the first quarter as the Huskies went up 22-14 at the end of the period.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Stewart and Tuck gave UConn a 14-point lead early in the second quarter and the Huskies never let the Seminoles get within eight the rest of the way, seeing their lead grow over 20 in the fourth quarter.

(5) MARYLAND 94, SOUTHERN 61: Shatori Walker-Kimbrough became the 30th Maryland women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 points, scoring 20 to lead the host Terrapins (10-0) past Southern (2-5).

Brionna Jones had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Maryland.

(16) TENNESSEE 58, WICHITA 51: Bashaara Graves had 18 points and 13 rebounds to help Tennessee (7-2) survive with a victory at Wichita State (1-6).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 95, UM-FARMINGTON 48: Jack Simonds had 16 of his game-high 27 points in the first half as the Polar Bears (5-3) ran out to a 52-27 lead and rolled past the Beavers (0-8) at Brunswick.

Bowdoin shot 60 percent in the first half.

Lucas Hausman had 19 points for the Polar Bears, and Matt Palecki added 11 points and seven boards.

Nick Hilton scored 13 for the Beavers. Eric Berry had 12.

COLBY 3, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 2: Mario Benicky scored a third-period goal to keep Colby (3-3-1, 2-3 NESCAC) on top in a win over Connecticut College (1-5-2, 0-3-2) at Waterville.

The Mules led 2-0 after two periods, but Joe Birmingham scored for the Camels on a power play 36 seconds into the third. Benicky provided the game-winner at the 7:33 mark with an assist from Michael Decker.

Benicky also assisted on the Mules first goal, scored by Michael Rudolph at 14:11 of the second. Colby’s second goal came from freshman Nick O’Connor, 21/2 minutes later.

TUFTS 2, BOWDOIN 0: Stewart Bell scored the tiebreaking goal on a deflection with less than three minutes left to push the Jumbos (2-4-2, 1-3-1 NESCACO to a win over Bowdoin (3-5-1, 1-3-1) at Brunswick.

Chad Goldberg added an empty-net goal with 23 seconds remaining.

Mason Pulde stopped 29 shots for the shutout, while Bowdoin’s Peter Cronin had 20 saves.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MAINE 1, UNION 0: Nicole Arnold scored 8:14 into the second period to lift the Black Bears (7-14) to a win over the Dutchwomen (0-13-4) at Orono.

Meghann Treacy made 17 saves for her third shutout.

FOOTBALL

RICHMOND 39, ILLINOIS STATE 27: Jacobi Green scored four touchdowns and the seventh-seeded Spiders (10-3) amassed 557 yards against No. 2 Illinois State (10-3) in a Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinal at Normal, Illinois.

Green, who ran for 137 yards, scored on runs of 28, 27 yards and 2 yards. The senior running back also had a 35-yard TD catch from Kyle Lauletta.
