BANGOR – Federal prosecutors say a Maine woman will spend two years on probation for withdrawing more than $31,000 in Social Security money from her dead mother’s checking account.

Prosecutors say Barbara Phillips, 66, of Franklin must also pay a $3,000 fine and about $31,500 in restitution to the Social Security Administration. Record records say she stole the money by drafting checks to herself from her mother’s account. The records say Phillips withdrew the money between August 2011 and December 2013.

A judge sentenced Phillips on Monday.

Phillips didn’t immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
