Westbrook and other police agencies arrested a fugitive from justice Tuesday morning at the Super 8 Motel on Larrabee Road in Westbrook.

The arrest of Dajuan A. Williams, 23, of Detroit, Mich., came after an eight-week investigation by Westbrook and Portland police, the Maine Violent Offenders Task Force and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, Westbrook police Capt. Michael Nugent said.

Williams was believed to have returned to the area and was recognized by officers responding to an unrelated call at the motel. Williams led officers and a Westbrook police K-9 on a brief foot pursuit. He was taken into custody after officers deployed their Tasers when he refused to submit to arrest, Nugent said.

Williams had active arrest warrants from Michigan, Vermont and Maine on multiple charges including aggravated assault, drug trafficking and domestic violence assault. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail where he is being held without bail as a fugitive from justice, Nugent said.

The matter remains under investigation and additional criminal charges are expected, according to Nugent.
