A Portland High School art teacher was arrested Wednesday morning at the school on charges related to child pornography.
Gerald White, 44, of 252 Lower Flying Point Road in Freeport, was arrested by the Computer Crimes Unit and charged with possessing sexually explicit material of someone under the age of 12. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, White’s computer was seized Tuesday and an initial examination showed dozens of images of child porn, but none of the children depicted are believed to be from Maine. The Computer Crimes Unit began investigating White after receiving a tip, McCausland said.
