South Portland, Windham, Westbrook and Thornton Academy had the late-day meet at USM on Saturday, Dec. 12, with TA winning on the boys’ side and Westbrook on the girls’.

Windham finished last on both sides, but nevertheless had some States qualifiers and some other standout performances.

“Although we didn’t do as well as we had hoped team-wise, we did have eight individuals qualify for States and we had some great performances from Ernie Ruby,” said Windham boys head coach Paula Pock. Ruby finished first in the 200, second in the 44 and fourth in the Long Jump.

In addition, Jeremy Bennett finished second in the 600 and third in the Two-Mile. Thomas Sappier claimed second in the Shot Put. The Eagles’ 4×800 Relay squad won that event.

“Ali Wintle and Justice Gaston both automatically qualified for the State Championship meet in the high jump,” said Windham girls head coach Scott Rush-Donohue. “Danielle Meader qualified provisionally in the same event.”

Likewise, Rush-Donohue added, Amanda Turner provisionally qualified in the 400, Meg Knights in the 55 Hurdles and Eliza Palow in the 55 dash.

Other notables include: Joelle Bockus in third in the 800 and Katie Hunter in fifth in the 600. Among freshmen, Abigail Clinch took third in the 55, second in the 200 and fourth in the Triple Jump.
