SACO — The Thornton Academy boys basketball team jumped out to a 16-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 79-51 win over visiting Sanford in boys basketball action on Friday night.

“I thought the kids played well,” said TA coach Bob Davies.

Davies was disappointed with his team’s defensive performance in the opening two quarters.

“We gave up 30 points in the first half … defensively I think we struggled a little bit. Second half, we played a little better team defense and didn’t gamble as much,” said Davies.

Senior point guard Jack Tilley led the Trojans with 17 points and seven assists.

TA also got 13 points and eight rebounds from junior forward John Fogg and Ben Lambert chipped in with 10 points.

The Trojans, who improved to 5-0 with the win, will visit Noble at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Swimming

Sanfor d sweeps Waynflete

The Sanford boys and girls swimming teams cruised to wins over visiting Waynflete on Friday afternoon. The boys picked up a 108-49 win, while the Lady Spartans won 113-44.

The girls were led by Pearl Frohloff and Delaney Tanguay, who eached picked up two individual wins.

Frohloff won the 200 free and the 500 free and Tanguay came home first in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly.

David Winchell III led the Sanford boys with two wins on the day. He won the 100 fly and the 100 backstroke to pace the Spartans.

Also picking up individual wins for Sanford were Quinn Severs (100 breaststroke), Mason Scully (50 free) and Heidi Demers (100 breaststroke).

Sanford also won five relay events on Friday. The team of Grace Hansen, Demers, Lily Denham and Allison L’Heureux won the girls’ 200 yard medley relay and Frohloff, Lacie Martineau, Hansen and Denham won the 200 yard free relay.

The Sanford boys team of Kevin Smith, Severs, Marcus Gould and Scully captured the 200 free relay and Winchell III, Scully, Carson Cuthbert and Severs won the 400 free relay.

In the girls’ 400 free relay, the Sanford team of Lacie Martineau, Maddy Leigh, Tanguay and Frohloff came home in first place.
