Maine State Police say a woman was killed in a single-car accident Tuesday evening on Interstate 95 in the Aroostook County town of Island Falls.
State Trooper Tim Saucier said George Drake, 69, of Houlton lost control of his 1998 Toyota sport utility vehicle, which spun off the highway, landed in a ditch and rolled over onto its roof, striking several trees.
A passenger, 71-year-old Janet Drake, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She died at the scene as a result of her injuries.
George Drake and a second passenger, Clyde Geary, 33, of Houlton, were transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The vehicle was destroyed in the crash, which took place at 6:12 p.m.
