An Orono man was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a large branch that fell off a tree in Jefferson, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Eliot Lamb, 22, was working on South Clary Road in Jefferson with Scott MacKenney, 42, of Whitefield, to remove a large tree from a property when a branch fell to the ground. Lt. Michael Murphy said it appeared Lamb died instantly at the scene.

Central Lincoln County Ambulance and the county sheriff’s office responded at 12:30 p.m., and officials from the Maine Department of Labor and the Medical Examiner’s Office were notified and will review the incident, according to the release.

Lamb’s parents were notified by the Orono Police Department.

MacKenney owns Second Nature Tree Service, and Lamb was an employee, according to the sheriff’s office.
