FALMOUTH — Charles Arthur “Tim” Stewart III, son of Charles Arthur Stewart Jr. and Louise Kidder died peacefully at Legacy Memory Care in Falmouth on Dec. 10, with his family by his side.

Stewart was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Boston Massachusetts, and grew up in Weston, Massachusetts. After graduating from Middlesex School, he went to Brown University. Between his sophomore and junior year, Stewart married his childhood sweetheart, Howsie.

He graduated from Brown University in 1958, after which the couple moved to Cherryfield, where he worked in the family blueberry business, AL Stewart and Sons. In 1961 the Stewarts moved to Yarmouth, where he continued working for the family business. Stewart enjoyed skiing for many years at Sugarloaf with his wife and three daughters. Tennis became a passion, and he bought Tennis of Maine in Falmouth.

After he retired, Stewart volunteered with the Portland Boys and Girls Club, the Yarmouth YMCA and Opportunity Farm (Wayfinders School).

He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Yarmouth.

Stewart became a member of the AMC Four Thousand Footer Club in New England at the age of 65. When he was not climbing he spent most of his time in Freedom, New Hampshire, looking across the lake at the mountains he loved. In October 2014 The Stewart Center, an adult day program for individuals with dementia and other cognitive abilities, was opened in his honor, which meant a lot to Stewart during his final years of life.

Stewart is survived by his wife of 59 years, Howsie Stewart; a sister, Mary Hockmeyer; a brother, Robert K. Stewart; three daughters, Rebecca Andreasson, Polly Stewart Bradley and Hillary Stewart; seven grandchildren, Stephan Knight, Laura Andreasson, Adam Knight, Julia Andreasson, Camilla Reed, Cameron Reed, and Caroline Reed and; several nieces and nephews.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Legacy Memory Care in Falmouth.

A service in Stewart’s memory will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at the First Parish Congregational Church in Yarmouth. A celebration of his life will follow at the Portland Country Club in Falmouth.
