GORHAM, N.H. — The warm weather has officials at the Mount Washington Auto Road considering a return to summer business.

Usually, the road up the Northeast’s highest peak closes to cars in late October, and the only way to get travel up the mountain in winter is via special all-terrain SnowCoaches. But weather permitting, van tours will be offered to the treeline – about 4,200 feet – on Saturday.

General manager Howie Wemyss says that’s never happened in the 35 years he’s been associated with the auto road. He says van tours will continue to be offered as long as the weather cooperates, though that can change quickly on the mountain, which is known as the home to some of the world’s worst weather.
