NEW YORK — An off-duty New York City police sergeant was arrested after authorities say he shot the mother of his child in the neck during a domestic dispute.

Officials say Jose Guerrero was arrested on second-degree assault charges Wednesday night after the 39-year-old woman walked into an emergency room in Yonkers with a gunshot wound to the neck.

A New York Police Department spokesman says the 49-year-old policeman was suspended without pay following his arrest.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the 16-year veteran had an attorney who could comment on the charges.

A spokesman for Westchester County prosecutors didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday. Guerrero’s union declined to comment.

The Daily News reports that Guerrero is a karate expert and fifth-degree black belt who founded a dojo in Yonkers.
