What is the sign of something well designed? It is intuitive to use or operate, and it’s beautiful to look at.

The Spring Street project is the opposite. Instead of a welcoming boulevard into the Old Port with trees and flowers running down the center, we got something unattractive and hard to use, requiring the “education” of residents to park and bump-outs that are so poorly designed that cars drive over them.

Look, I know it’s expensive, but let’s have a do-over. Landscape the center of the road so that it makes a great first impression on tourists throughout the year and is a pleasure to use on a daily basis by residents.

Make the parking normal. This road is something we will live with and use for decades. Please let’s get it right.
