Born in Burnham on July 23, 1922 to George and Sara (Young) Lester, he was educated in Burnham public schools and graduated from Unity High School, Class of 1940. He went on to attend National Youth Administration School in Dexter, where he took several correspondence courses in metallurgy and heat treating. He was employed at Saco- Lowell Maremont and Saco Defense for 42 years. He retired in 1983 as a metallurgical laboratory supervisor.
He belonged to several metallurgical organizations and the Knights of Columbus, where he was a lifetime member. He was also a member of the Biddeford and Saco Country Club for over 60 years. He enjoyed sports very much, playing baseball for the Burnham Athletic Club and Saco-Lowell. He played softball for several teams in Biddeford and Saco. He was also an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beatrice; two sisters, Delia and Kathleen; and two brothers, Donald and Clair.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
