I currently run Windows 8.1 on my desktop computer at home. A few weeks ago, I started getting a recurring pop-up window on my computer encouraging me to download Microsoft’s Windows 10 for free.

While Windows 10 may eventually turn out to be a fine operating system, I am satisfied with 8.1 and have no intention of changing to Windows 10. This recurring “Get Windows 10” pop-up is really annoying. I constantly try to delete it, but it just keeps showing back up on my computer screen.

I’ve tried various methods for eliminating this sucker, but to no avail. The computer code for this pop-up was slipped into a Microsoft update several months ago by Microsoft. This looks like an attempt by Microsoft to basically force me into agreeing to download Windows 10 or else it will continue to plague my computing experience with this pop-up. Thank you very much, Microsoft!

With issues like climate change, terrorism and a dysfunctional government to wake up to every morning, maybe a simple annoying pop-up window really doesn’t seem like much of a problem.

After all, in the end, Windows 10 may turn out to be a great operating system. It’s just the feeling of helplessness that I get when a large corporation appears to be steamrolling over me that I don’t like.

If you are experiencing this problem on your computer, I encourage you to voice your displeasure to Microsoft because if we do nothing, things will only get worse. At this point, I’m thinking that my next computer may be a Mac.
