From the Journal Tribune: “A new president has been chosen to lead the University of New England and will be taking the helm this summer. Danielle N. Ripich, Ph.D. will be the fifth president of the university and will succeed current President Sandra Featherman. In November, Featherman announced she would be retiring after 11 years of leading the school.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Clarence O. Botting, 63, of 80 East Grand Ave., had a double stroke of bad luck this morning when his car collided with the police cruiser at the corner of Somerset Avenue and Union Avenue. Botting told police he did not see the police car in time to avoid contact because his windshield was frosted.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “There was a bowling match at the Alfred street alleys, Wednesday evening, in which the Pasttimes were pitted against the Midgets, and the contest drew out a good sized gathering of spectators. The Pastimes were victorious, capturing two of the three strings.”
