PORTLAND (AP) — A Maine probate judge facing a lawsuit says he may resign from his elected position.

The Portland Press Herald reports York County Probate Judge Robert Nadeau made the unexpected statement at the conclusion of a court hearing Tuesday in a lawsuit against him.

Legal issues have been growing against Nadeau. The Maine Supreme Judicial Court is considering whether to punish him for allegations of past infractions and the state Committee on Judicial Responsibility and Disability is considering whether to bring new misconduct allegations against him.

A New Hampshire woman is also suing him to undo his control over scheduling in his courtroom.

Nadeau says in an email that he’ll resign if county commissioners agree to fund a new full-time judge’s position.
