Elisabeth Redwood, Bonny Eagle indoor track: A senior sprinter, Redwood swept the 55-, 200- and 400-meter races at an SMAA meet at the University of Southern Maine. Her time of 59.57 seconds in the 400 is the only sub-minute clocking in the state this winter and ranks 35th nationally. She also has the state’s top time (26.87) in the 200 – set last month – and is ranked seventh in the 55 at 7.67.

HONORABLE MENTION

Lucy Alexander, Yarmouth Nordic skiing: A senior, Alexander bested a field of 41 to win the opening Western Maine Conference skate race of the season at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.

Maddie Hasson, South Portland basketball: A senior forward, Hasson scored 54 points to lead the Red Riots to two victories. She had 32 points and 22 rebounds in a 55-35 victory over Lewiston and then finished with 22 points in a 55-29 win over Cheverus.

Danita Storey, Greely High hockey: A senior forward, Storey recorded her 100th career goal and added an assist in a 3-0 victory over Falmouth, and added an assist in a 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten St. Dominic to help the Rangers improve their record to 11-0.

BOYS

Nate Samson, Brunswick swimmer: A senior bound for Florida State, Samson set a state record in the 100-yard freestyle of 46.50 seconds at the Morse Invitational at the Bath YMCA, lowering the 46.60 mark set by James Wells of Morse in 2009. At the same meet, Samson became Maine’s first high schooler this season to break two minutes in the 200 individual medley, at 1:54.79. He also has the top time in the 50 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 100 butterfly.

HONORABLE MENTION

Seth Dube, Thornton Academy: A freshman goalie, Dube recorded 22 saves for a shutout for the Trojans in a 4-0 victory over Biddeford.

Jake Martel, Noble wrestling: A junior, Martel won the 126-pound title at the Noble Invitational with an emphatic third-period pin to become the host school’s only champion. He advanced to the final with a 16-0 technical fall and a semifinal pin.

Tyus Sprague-Ripley, Massabesic basketball: A senior, Sprague-Ripley scored 19 points against Sanford and then had 23 points and 14 rebounds against Marshwood as the Hawks improved their record to 8-0.
