BRUNSWICK and BROOKSVILLE — Barbara Littlefield Pluff died peacefully on Aug. 20, 2015, in Yarmouth, Maine, at the age of 88.

Barbara is survived by her three sons, Clayton W. Pluff Jr. of Coconut Grove, FL; Frederic Pluff of Newton, NH and Jonathan Pluff of North Yarmouth, ME. Additionally, she is survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clayton W. Pluff Sr.

Barbara was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Frederic Billings Littlefield and Lillian Pierce Littlefield.

Through her teen years she became an accomplished figure skater, competing at national levels. She graduated from Tufts University with a degree in English. While attending Tufts, she met and married her husband, a returning hero from World War II.

In addition to raising three sons, Barbara authored nine young adult books as well as contributing to numerous publications, including the Boston Globe and Yankee Magazine.

Spending summers at her family’s home on the coast of Maine, she enjoyed sailing, tennis, and gardening. She was known affectionately as “Sam” by close family members.

Barbara spent the last months of her life at Bay Square Yarmouth. The family would like to thank the staff for all their kind and exceptional care of her.

At Barbara’s request, there will be no public service. A private family burial will be held during the summer of 2016.
