CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire lawmakers are considering creating a death benefit for school employees killed in the line of duty.

The House Finance Committee is holding a public hearing today on a bill sponsored by Katherine Rogers, a Democrat from Concord. Her proposal would authorize the state treasurer to pay $100,000 to the family of any public school worker who dies as a result of an incident, accident or violence while performing his or her duties.

The university system of New Hampshire and the state’s community college system would be included in the definition of public school.
