WORECSTER, Mass. (AP) — Worcester police are warning residents about the perils of meeting people first contacted through social media dating applications.

Police say two men have reported to them in the past 10 days that they were attacked after agreeing to meet women they contacted through dating apps.

In the first case on Jan. 4, the man arranged to meet a woman at an apartment. When he arrived at the designated meeting spot, he was jumped by two men who stole his cellphone.

And just last Sunday, a man said he was stabbed by two men who attacked him after he agreed to meet a woman contacted through social media. The assailants tried to rob the man of his wallet and phone but were unsuccessful.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
