NEW DELHI (AP) — Lawmakers in India’s coastal resort state of Goa have reportedly asked police for details about a U.S. tourist who allegedly drowned in a paddy field after being chased by local villagers.

The state’s highest elected official, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, says the man allegedly fell into the paddy field and inhaled the muddy soil near the village of Korgao, according to the Press Trust of India.
