SAR meeting

The Southern Maine Chapter of the Maine SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) will be meeting Saturday, Jan. 23, at 9:30 a.m. in the Baxter Memorial Library in Gorham, located at 71 South Main St. Let the group help you trace your roots to your Patriot of the Revolution for separation from Britain, and you can help locate your Patriot’s final resting place. Stop by the Ocean Gardens Restaurant earlier for breakfast if you want; some of the members will be there.

Senior Center

The Lakes Region Senior Center, 40 Acorn St., Gorham, will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18. This is a drop-in center, open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. weekdays. You are welcome to stop in daily for coffee, tea, socializing, puzzle table or other activity including: Monday, Mahjong, beginners welcome. Call Diane, 892-9529; Tuesday, crafts and card games. Shaker Village program

Many have visited the nearby Shaker Community, and enjoyed the beautiful buildings, museum and sampled offerings from the shops. On Saturday, Jan. 23, at 9 a.m., former museum Director Lenny Brooks will provide a look at this unique community in a program titled “In Time and Eternity: The Shakers 1870-1920.” The public program will be held in the meeting room at Windham Public Library. All are welcome. Suggested donation to Windham Historical Society is $5 per person. Refreshments will be available.

Help for veterans

Veterans Service Officer Matt Haley will be available at the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Starting in February, Haley will hold office hours on the second Wednesday only of the month with extended hours from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. He can be reached at his office near the Portland Airport, 151 Jetport Blvd., Room 138W, or call 822-2391 or email www.Portland.MaineBVS@maine.gov.

Date night

Windham Center Stage Theater invites you to enjoy “Date Night” at the one-night-only performance of “Love Letters” on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. Child-care options are available and must be made in advance. Veterans commemorative pavers available

One hundred granite pavers are being made available by the Windham Veterans Association to be installed in the Memorial Garden on Memorial Day 2016. Each paver will have up to three lines of the veteran’s information with a cost of $50 per paver. More than 50 pavers have been sold during the last month. Don’t wait too long. Bean supper

On Friday, Jan. 22, the American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 will hold a public baked bean supper from 5-6:30 p.m. at Windham Veterans Center. Tickets are $8 for adults, age 12 and under, free. Tickets at the door.

Family movie time

Love the “Wizard of Oz?” Here’s your chance to see the original, from 1939, starring Judy Garland. On Saturday, Jan. 23, from 1-2:30 p.m., it’s “Movie Time for Families” at the Public Library meeting room. Light snacks provided but you can bring your own if you wish.
