AUGUSTA – An Orono man is going to prison for conspiring to steal merchandise from Wal-Mart, Hannaford, and other stores in Maine.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Jason Robinson was sentenced to 41 months in prison and five years of supervised release.

Robinson also was ordered to pay back more than $13,000.

Court documents say Robinson conspired with others to steal merchandise from the stores and sell it on eBay. Robinson also returned stolen merchandise to Lowe’s and Home Depot in exchange for store credit.

The documents say Robinson also defrauded banks by depositing worthless checks and withdrawing the money before those checks bounced.
