BOSTON — Daniel Sedin was less concerned with making history than he was getting a win.
In the Vancouver Canucks’ 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night, Sedin accomplished both. He became the Canucks’ career leader in goals with 348, scoring twice in the third period.
“It’s more about the two points, I think,” Sedin said. “(You) look at the standings every day and you try to stay away from it, but every point is huge.”
Sedin tucked the rebound of Christopher Tanev’s shot past Tuukka Rask for the record-breaker and eventual winner with 12:57 remaining. He also scored into an empty net in the final minute.
Sedin scored two goals in Vancouver’s 3-2 overtime win against Florida on Jan. 11 to tie Markus Naslund for the franchise lead, but went scoreless in four straight games before Thursday.
Vancouver (20-17-11, 51 points) earned its third victory in four games and moved within 10 points of the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Kings.
“To come in after the way we’ve played lately, we came in and had a pretty good game I thought,” Sedin said. “Kept their shots down, and we had a few chances of ours, too, so it was good.”
Sven Baertschi and Alexandre Burrows also scored for Vancouver, and Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves.
Brad Marchand and Jimmy Hayes scored for Boston, and Rask stopped 23 shots in his 300th career NHL game.
David Krejci returned to the Bruins’ lineup after missing 10 games with an upper-body injury and logged 18:44 of ice time.
The Bruins (24-17-5, 53 points) had their three-game winning streak halted.
“We went back to how we used to play early on in the season,” Rask said. “I guess we’ll go work tomorrow and try to figure it out and get the battle level and heads in the game.”
Baertschi poked a puck through Rask’s legs to put the Canucks ahead early in the first period.
Hayes’ wrister from the left circle with under a minute to play in the second tied it for Boston.
Burrows beat Rask on a point-blank slap shot nearly two minutes into the third period, but Vancouver’s lead was short-lived as Marchand rocketed a wrister past Markstrom roughly 21/2 minutes later to make it 2-2.
Rask’s 17-save shutout helped Boston blank Vancouver 4-0 in the only other meeting between the teams this season on Dec. 5.
